Commercial 4x4 training is a necessity for any organisation operating 4x4 vehicles in a work environment.

  • Fulfil your Health & Safety obligations (PUWR '98)
  • Reduce downtime
  • Reduce maintenance costs
  • Reduce recovery costs
  • Increase revenue

Our company has many years experience in tailor-made courses to meet the specific needs of companies in the fields of emergency services, mobile communications, public utilities and government bodies.

4x4 Training (Dalestrax) is an accredited member of the British Off Road Driving Association upholding their Codes of Practice to maintain the highest standards and all events are authorised under Statute 1371 of The Road Traffic Act 1992/1995 (Off Road Driving Regulations).

Professional Off Road Driver Training

Every employer has a responsibility to train his or her staff in the use of equipment they provide and driving a 4-wheel drive vehicle off road is no exception. The techniques used are very different from on road driving and therefore learning to drive on road and passing a driving test is not sufficient training for driving off road.

To satisfy these demands we offer three levels of training, all carried out by fully trained instructors accredited with the British Off Road Driving Association (BORDA):

  • 4x4 Off Road Driving Day
  • BORDA Stage 1 Off Road Driver Training
  • BORDA Stage 2 Off Road Driver Training

All training events are authorised under statute 1371 of the Road Traffic Act 1992.

4x4 Off Road Driving Day

This course is for the occasional 4x4 user

This level offers fleet managers and operators who don't usually drive off road the opportunity to understand how the specialist 4 wheel drive systems work and experience the machines operating in true off road conditions. The knowledge gained on this course can be used to ensure that the vehicles are being driven properly, reducing maintenance and repair costs.

With three attendees per instructor, this course is exceptionally good value. Trainees receive course notes and a Certificate of Attendance.

Stage One Off Road Driver Training

This course is for the occasional 4x4 user

This one day course covers basic off-road driving techniques, Health & Safety issues and 4 wheel drive systems. It is intended for occasional off-road driving in mild conditions.

The day starts with a classroom briefing on the 4 wheel drive systems followed by a demonstration drive by the instructor. Each trainee will then take turns to drive the vehicle, gaining experience and confidence as the day progresses.

The instructor will be looking for the trainee's ability to assess each situation and be able to handle the vehicle in a safe and competent way.

We will also explain the limitations of the vehicle and expect the trainee to be able to judge the suitability of the route for driving.

The course is designed for two attendees per instructor.

There will be continuous assessments throughout the day, finishing with a formal assessment at the end of the course.

Nationally accredited certificates will be awarded to successful trainees and everyone will be given course notes.

Stage Two Off Road Driver Training

This course is the Employer's complete answer to their Health & Safety obligations under PUWR 98

A two day course covering 4 wheel drive systems, specialist driving techniques, recovery route planning, the environment and H&S issues associated with driving off road.

Situations that can be sorted easily on road can be very hazardous when tackled off road, for example changing a wheel in soft mud needs very careful planning.

This advanced level covers most situations likely to be encountered in driving off road and is particularly important for those working alone.

The course is structured to be progressive with ample time to allow for different abilities. We would expect all attendees to attain a good knowledge of their vehicle, be able to assess each situation safely and be able to drive off road in a safe and competent way with minimum strain on vehicle and environment.

There is a formal assessment on the second day and successful trainees will be awarded a nationally accredited certificate, and all attendees will be given course notes.

We have eight principle locations throughout the country and many others that we can use on a temporary basis, therefore we can run these course within reasonable travelling distances regardless of your location.
